About Gokova

Taking its name from the sky (gok) and the plain (ova), Gokova is quite a sizeable gulf. The sea is always calm, despite the strong winds that whip its coast.  The Gokova Gulf’s most important feature is that it possesses Turkey’s most carved coastline, where mountains bulge out and retreat in to form the country’s laciest shores. And this is particularly true along its southeastern borders.

Gokova’s coastline features several rounded coves, which are known as "buk" in Turkish.  Cokertme, Akbuk, Gelibolu, Sogut Buku, Ballisu, English Harbour, Degirmen Buku, Longoz Harbour, Mercincik Harbour, Kargi Koyu, Palamut Buku, and Domuz Buku are the gulf’s star bays. Numerous islands also pepper the Gulf’s southeast including: Karacada, Incirli Ada, Yali Adasi, and Sedir Adasi , whichhave gained fame in tourist guides. Boasting a rich natural beauty and historical sites, the Gokova Gulf is a very popular route for blue cruises and yachting.
